How Much Electricity Do Dirty

Solar Panels Lose?

The amount of electricity being generated by your solar panels is adversely affected by dirt and grime build-up on the panels.

Solar panels are comprised of many small units called photovoltaic cells. These cells covert sunlight into electricity. If sunlight is shielded or blocked from penetrating the panel and hitting the cells, then the shielded cells do not produce electricity.

According to the National Renewable Energy Laboratory, experts agree that the loss in electricity production reaches as high as 25% in some areas.

This figure is backed up by SEPA (Solar Electric Power Association) which is a non-profit organization which offers information and advice about solar power.

Some areas are more prone to grime build up than others. The pitch of the roof is another contributing factor along with salt spray in coastal areas (like Ulladulla and surrounding areas), bird droppings, mould, moss, dust and grime fallout.

Dirt does not need to cover an entire solar panel to have a negative impact on performance.

How Soft House Washing Works

We will spray a specially formulated cleaning solution to the exterior surfaces of your house. This includes eaves, gutters, windows, soffit's, screens, awnings, walls & doors.

The Soft house wash solution takes effect in a few minutes, breaking down cobwebs, mould, dirt and grime. Sometimes stubborn dirt may need to be loosened with a soft bristle brush.

The solution is then rinsed off with cold water.

The pressure is similar to that of a garden hose with more water flow and is adjustable for any delicate areas such exterior lights or power points.

Soft wash is the gentle wash used for roof and property cleaning. It uses a chemical mix to remove all mould, age stains, moss and fungal elements that have build up over time.

The Soft Wash mixture is a mixture of Sodium Hypochlorite (SH), Bio-Cleaners and added Surfactant Soaps which is applied over the surface and left for 15-20 minutes (depending on weather conditions) to sink in and degrade foreign materials. The roof is then thoroughly rinsed off at a very low pressure between 50-100 psi.

*Never high pressure blast a tiled roof, it will cause damage to the tiles as well as make them porous.
